When I was in the US in April 2017, I spent a whole delightful day at San Diego Zoo which i’d been looking forward to for AGES. It didn’t disappoint!
Firstly, it’s HUGE. It’s really well laid-out with lots of different levels and feels a bit like you’re discovering as you go… The zoo is very leafy with humongous trees and plants that you’re often up in the canopy of… Cue the Jurassic Park theme tune at every turn…
We watched enthralled as a young chimp discovered a little duckling which had fallen into the enclosure (with what I imagine were its parents looking on helplessly from above) – it began to ‘play’ with it, innocently but a bit too enthusiastically and it soon stopped moving. The elder chimps gathered round as the young chimp looked confused and forlorn at its new plaything no longer moving… it was so bizarrely akin to watching human parents observe a toddler learning a life lesson…
TEXTURES! Textures everywhere… Spent a long time looking at rhinos in particular, they’re absolutely fascinating – click on the images above for a closer view…
BEAUTIFUL TIGERS… As a BIG fan of big cats (and of course the little ones too), I always end up spending most of my time with them whenever I get see them… This one was having a lazy day but keeping a keen eye on the visitors…
